THE BEGINNING OF A TRAINER

Bernd decided to be a trainer while he was playing in Atletico Madrid. He discovered it was very difficult to be far from the stadium, from the smell of the grass and from the daily trainings. Also he could finally win the cups he lost as a player.

He thought he could do it better than a lot of other trainers and he started his courses since he was in Bayer Leverkusen.

During his time in Mexico he was doing nothing about it but he back home and started in may 1997 his last therm in Sportshochschule in Cologne.

During summer the president of Fortuna Cologne, Jean Löring, thought Schuster could be the trainer he was looking for because his winning charakter. Loering wished his legend like a player had to set an example for the Fortuna team.

Bernd got a permission from the DFB to start as a professional before he ends the trainer course.

He got the trainer's licence in november 1997 during his time in SC Fortuna Cologne.
