Dave's Southern California Page

I moved to Southern California in September 1999, and am stationed at Point Mugu Naval Air Station. The base is located approximately 80 kilometres northwest of the Los Angeles mess, at the base of the Santa Monica Mountains. I try to avoid L.A. and have only been there 3 times, once on visa business for my wife, and 2 airport runs. Click on a thumbnail for a larger photo.

Point Mugu Naval Air Station

Point Mugu NAS is home to many types of aircraft including E-2's, P-3's, C-130's, and F-14's.Unfortunately photography is prohibited in the aviation area, so I can't show you any. But, here are a few pictures of rest of the base. The beach is quite scenic and rich with wildlife including Brown Pelicans, the rare Snowy Plover, and lots of harbor seals. Frequently over 100 seals can be seen lying on the banks of the lagoon.

Point Mugu State Park

Point Mugu State Park, located between the Pacific and the Santa Monica Mountains, features 5 miles of ocean shoreline, with rocky bluffs, sandy beaches, sand dunes, rugged hills and uplands, 2 major river canyons and wide grassy valleys dotted with sycamores, oaks and a few native walnuts. There are more than 70 miles of hiking trails. The beach also features swimming, body surfing, and surf fishing. The 13,300 acre park includes the jagged pinnacles of the Boney Mountains State Wilderness Area. The beach is located 15 miles south of Oxnard on Highway 1. There are virtual reality panoramas of Sycamore Canyon Beach and Above Sycamore Canyon at Topographic maps of Point Mugu State Park: small 1:50,000and large 1:25,000
