Civil War Forts of the Pensacola Area

Fort Barrancas

At Fort Barrancas, a Civil War era fort on base.

The moat of the fort. From the overlook. The tunnel in the walls.

The bridge over the moat. Cannons on display. The flag flying over the fort.

It actually got cold enough to wear a sweatshirt in December! The exterior of the fort. From the rifle gallery.

Fort Pickens

Fort Pickens is another Civil War fort located across the bay from NAS Pensacola.

The fort from a distance. A 15" 1868 Rodman cannon, capable of firing a 300-400 pound ball 3 or 4 miles. The interior courtyard.

Me at the fort. The naval air station is across the bay. Yet another view.
