A Formula Book of Magical Incenses and Oils

By Scott Cunningham

Here is the complete text of Scott Cunningham's booklet, A Formula Book of Magical Incenses and Oils,
self published while Magical Herbalism was still in preparation for publication.

WARNING:
None of these recipes should be taken internally. A healing incense should not be used in place of medical
attention should serious complications occur. Some people have allergies to certain herbs; use caution
with oils and incenses you haven't experimented with before.

Introduction
There is no mystical secret about preparing incenses and oils for use in magic; the secret is simply that it
isn't difficult!

For centuries, however, reliable, complete incense and oil formulae haven't been available to the general
public.

This small booklet, then, has been written to fill some of this need. Most of the ingredients are easily
obtainable at occult or herb shops, or even at a grocery store, and the procedures for making oils and
incenses are simple.

So this book explains the "what" (the ingredients) and the 'how' (their preparation). But when should they
be used? Whenever the need exists, use these oils and incenses. You'll know if you're looking for a
love, or if a friend is sick, or if you'll be performing a full moon ritual. Feel free to use these recipes
anytime you sense the need.

I hope it need not be said that magic attempts to harm, manipulate or control others always ends in self
destruction - it isn't worth the heavy penalty that awaits.

Use these recipes with care and love, for the good of all. Blessed Be!!!

Preparation of formulae you will notice that for several of the recipes in this booklet no amounts are given;
this is traditional, but don't let it scare you off.

Use your intuition when mixing incenses; add as much of each ingredient as you believe is required.

For oils, use your nose - scent is important.

Tools
You'll need a large ceramic bowl in which to mix the incenses, and a glass bottle or jar to mix the oils.
An eyedropper is a great help in mixing oils, as you can add them one drop at a time to ensure the proper
amounts.

Mixing Incenses
Add each ingredient to the bowl. When you are satisfied by the amount (or have followed those specified, if
any) gently rub your fingers through the incenses mixture slowly, concentrating on the work the
incense is to do. If it is a love incense, concentrate on love for instance.
After a few moments remove your hands. The incense should be well mixed and vibrating with energy and
magical power. Pour it into a bottle, label it, and keep until needed.

Mixing Oils
Add each oil to the clean glass bottle, constantly sniffing to see if the scent seems right, when it is, gently
swirl the contents of the jar around (thinking your magical goal). Pour into a smaller bottle, hold it in
your hands, think of your magical intent, and then label it and keep it until needed.

Using Oils and Incenses
The incenses discussed in this book must be burned on charcoal blocks, which are available at any occult
store or religious supply house. Simply light the charcoal block, set it in a censer or a dish filled with
sand, and pour the incense onto it.
Oils should either be rubbed onto an object, like a candle, or on your own body.
The traditional anointing spots are the wrists, forehead, back of the neck, the breast, stomach, and feet.

While many of these formulae are to be used when doing a spell, you may not be able to find one suitable to
your purposes. If not, make one up! Take a candle, anoint it with the proper oil, burn the proper
incense and state (in a short rhyme, if you wish) what you desire.

And remember, if you don't have the proper ingredient for a recipe, improvise!!!

Here are traditional Candle colors and meanings:

Blue: Healing
Green: Fertility, Money, Good luck

Pink: Love
Orange: Attraction, Protection
