Eris is the goddess of discord. She is the daughter of Zeus and Hera.She is the actual cause of the Trojan war. When, at the wedding of Peleus and Thetis, she was angry at not being invited, threw a golden apple on the table inscribed "To the fairest." Hera, Aphrodite, and Athena got into an argument. When they asked Zeus to decide he instructed Hermes to take them to Paris, the shepard (he is the son of Piram, but was sent to the field because his father got a prophecy that said Paris would cause the downfall of his kingdom)to decide.
Once there they all made offers to Paris. Hera said she would make him a powerful ruler and riches. Athena promised him great knowledge. Aphrodite promised him the most beautiful woman in the world, which was Helen. She helped him take Helen back to Troy and that caused the war.
