Pan

Pan is the god of the flocks, feilds and forests. He is the son of Hermes. His mother was a nymph and when she the goats legs and horns, she fled screaming. Hermes took him to some nymphs and they cared for him.

He was always shown playing his pipes, or the Syrinx. Syrinx was a nymph that Pan was in love with. She rejected and fled from him, he still persued her. She prayed to her father, a river god, and he changed her into reeds. Pan noticed the sound they made when the air blew over them, gathered them up and named them after Syrinx.
