I think that the nothing is all the boundaries imposed on us by our society, especially as we age. But it is always present, even with children. It is every expectation not to defer from 'the norm' not to express any wild or 'different' ideas or feelings etc. As the gmork said in the film, "the nothing is everything to the power behind the nothing". It is a boundary placed for power and control over others.
I really feel that the Nothing is the unuse or the "growing out of" fantasing and exercising our imagination. I feel like Fantasia in the movie is created by us, humans, and as our society changes and we get too busy for even the daily grind, the Nothing takes over and, in a sense, erases our Fantasia.
