American fast-food chains received a much-needed butt-kicking Wednesday.

An obese New York man, citing serious personal health problems caused by fatty cuisine, filed suit against McDonald’s, Wendy’s, Burger King and Kentucky Fried Chicken.

The plaintiff claims their advertisements, menus and packaging don’t reveal nutritional values of ingredients in their food items.

The four chains say they’ve been providing such information—including calories and fat contents—for many years.

But where is that information? Posted in small print on a restroom wall?

Virtually every food package, can and bottle sold in America’s markets must carry a specific Nutrition Facts label listing calories, calories from fat, total fat and amounts of sodium, carbohydrates, dietary fiber, sugar, protein, vitamins.

Thanks to the National Restaurant Assn., a major lobby in Washington D.C. and state capitals, the Great Nutrition Deception by unregulated fast food is killing more people than tobacco and alcohol.

Require Nutrition Facts labeling in fast-food ads, menus and packaging--fast. (28 JULY 2002)
