Memories of a nearly bloodless corpse remain vivid even after 43 years.

Remains of a 16-year-old girl were found on the front lawn of a municipal hospital in Southern California’s San Fernando Valley.

When the medical examiner viewed the body by flashlight, the pale, lifeless features revealed a pretty blonde who had died only a few hours before.

Her skirt was clotted with blood, the result of massive hemorrhaging after an illegal abortion. She had missed the opportunity for legalized choice by 13 years.

Jane Doe had been dumped on the hospital grounds by the abortionist or an acquaintance more anxious to avoid detection than provide real emergency assistance.

Who knows if the girl, given proper medical care, would have survived the consequences of having a coat hanger rupture her uterus.

Remember Jane Doe whenever someone cries for legislative or judicial reversal of Roe vs. Wade. (19 JANUARY 2003)
