Journalists have weapons of mass destruction on their desks.

Sandwiched between their dictionary, thesaurus and stylebook is a deadly almanac—the object of a Federal Bureau of Investigation holiday warning to 18,000 American law-enforcement agencies.

According to the FBI, literate terrorists might be using almanacs “to assist with target selection and pre-operational planning.”

Homeland security types now are casting suspicious eyes on individuals toting paperback tomes of 1,000 or more pages.

Who they should be watching are individuals toting publications describing how to make bombs and deadly chemicals or toxins.

Let’s hope those terrorists are following the Old Farmers Almanac, which rarely reveals anything remotely accurate. (11 JANUARY 2004) --30--
