Remember the 1992 political axiom, “It’s the economy, Stupid”?
It’s deja vu all over again, folks. The slogan for this year’s national election should be “It’s the economy again, Stupid.”
Just look at the overwhelming economic woes facing the United States:
--Astronomical national debt.
--Uncontrolled deficit spending.
--Massive tax cuts for the wealthy.
--Offshore incorporation to escape federal and state taxes.
--Minimal job creation.
--Increased outsourcing of living-wage jobs.
--Weak prosecution of corporate thieves.
--Rising healthcare costs.
--Insourcing of foreigners for both skilled and unskilled jobs.
Those issues must define this year’s political debates. (25 JANUARY 2004)
