Most motorists--thankfully--can walk and chew gum at the same time.

But, according to studies, many motorists involved in fatal or injury accidents can’t simultaneously drive and talk on cellular phones.

And other studies have found that hands-free cell phones are also significant distractions in traffic.

Apparently, however, listening to a vehicle’s radio or CD player isn’t a distraction because no interactions or thoughtful responses are required of the driver.

In fact, studies have shown that lively music makes drowsy drivers more alert and passive music helps soothe jittery and angry motorists.

Cell phones, citizen-band and short-wave radios should be allowed in motor vehicles only for reporting emergencies—not for conducting personal or work-related business.
