Honestly, there has to be at least one basic requirement to run for President of the United States.

Right now, the only basic requirements are being born in America and being age 35 or older. And neither requirement has prevented idiots from being elected.

There are efforts afoot to eliminate the Constitutional requirement of American-born citizenship so California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (born in Austria) can run for America’s highest political office.

Where’re the outrage and angst from American-born 18- to 34-year-olds?

Admittedly, the citizenship requirement was approved because Americans didn’t want persons of British birth running the country after a bitter war with King George.

Hey, America also was in a bitter war with Austria, part of the Nazi coalition, during the 1940s.

America needs to add requirements to run for President: minimum scores on IQ and knowledge tests, for example. (26 SEPTEMBER 2004)
