Just let Uncle Sam do it, say most parents about regulating what their children see on television.

That’s the message reported recently by the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation.

Some 63 percent of surveyed parents support new government regulations limiting TV’s sexual and violent conducts during early evening hours.

Yet only about 25 percent now use the TV ratings system to help guide their children’s viewing. And only 15 percent said they use the V-Chip to filter viewing choices.

lt appears most parents don’t use tools already at their disposal to regulate their children’s viewing.

Those same parents probably expect schools to teach core values and virtually everything else that should be learned at home. (3 OCTOBER 2004)
