Blame this idiocy on New English, the educational mantra that discounts spelling and punctuation in written communication as long as the meaning is “clear.”

Seems the City of Livermore, Calif. paid a Brooklyn, N.Y. artist $40,000 to paint a mosaic of historic figures for the public library.

Unfortunately, 11 famous names were misspelled (including Eistein, Shakespere, Michaelangelo and Van Gough).

The artist, an Hispanic-American, even initially refused the city’s offer of $6,000 to make the corrections after numerous critical telephone calls and e-mails labeled her as “ignorant.”

Duh. She probably voted for another language rapist, Gorge Busch. (14 NOVEMBER 2004)
