Joe Schmo finally made it into the Oxford English Dictionary.

The tome’s editors added that “current” term and 2,000 other new and revised entries in the online version of the 20-volume British reference work.

Schmo was accompanied by Benjamin, fanfic, po’ boy, beat down and hairy eyeball.

Benjamin is slang for the $100 American bill. Lord knows where the others came from—or who uses them on either side of the Atlantic Ocean.

As you may recall, a schmoo is the shapeless blob that reached fad proportions several years ago.

Perhaps Schmo has achieved new currency because it resembles so many weight-challenged Americans these days.

And po’ boy is another American oldie, now probably referring to a sandwich eaten by Bushie Schmos in the Red States. (19 DECEMBER 2004)
