Isn’t it enough that engineers may blast train horns to warn motorists at controlled intersections in the wee hours of the morning?

A new fad in Florida has pickup-truck owners legally installing the ultra-loud $1,000 devices in order to scare the bejabbers out of nearby victims.

Even $70 police citations for violating noise ordinances don’t deter the horn owners, who especially enjoy startling senior citizens.

Hey, federal and state laws and municipal ordinances ought to spell out that only car horns can be installed in cars, truck horns in trucks and train horns in trains. Period.

Come to think of it, the same laws and ordinances ought to prohibit any unnecessary hooting that disturbs one’s peace and quiet between the hours of 9 p.m. and 7 a.m. (27 FEBRUARY 2005)
