Erect a sturdy gallows.

Strong enough to string up 285 members of the U.S. House of Representatives who voted to ban Medicare subsidies for erectile-dysfunction prescriptions.

Steve King (R-Iowa) sponsored the successful amendment to a $142.5-billion federal spending bill for 2006, saying it would save taxpayers at least $2 billion in 2006-15.

King, who hopefully will be dethroned by irate senior constituents next year, called the impotency medications “lifestyle drugs” for “Grandpa’s recreational sex.”

The congressional dildo also compared ED meds to face-lifts, weight-loss drugs, hair-restoration remedies and vacations that are not covered by Medicare.

Impotence is a medical problem caused by a litany of physical ailments and especially affects older males.

At about $10 a pop, unsubsidized ED pills would be out of reach for sexually active seniors on limited incomes.

Shame. (3 JULY 2005)
