Over-reaching nudity prohibitions base their rationale on preventing unwanted public exposure of sexual organs.

A judge, in fact, recently invalidated a criminal citation given to a Florida (naturally) woman for baring her breasts during a political protest.

The woman argued that females should be free to go topless wherever males can. Men have breasts too, she said.

That’s not the point, folks. Breasts are not sexual organs. They’re mammary glands.

In fact, a female’s sexual organs--unlike a man’s--are hidden inside her body.

Ergo, women can dance completely naked in many topless venues and pose sans anything in art classes without violating blue-nosed ordinances.

And then there are those laws permitting the public breast-feeding of babies. We won’t go there, however.

Who really wants to see a naked dowager sauntering on a sidewalk? But what about a topless Hooters waitress walking to work…? (10 JULY 2005)
