America’s political correctionists appear hell bent on removing public symbols of the nation’s only religious legal holiday.

Schools, banks, postal and government offices close 10 times annually for New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Veterans Day, Martin Luther King Day, Presidents Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.

Christmas Day, of course, celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ, proclaimed for 2005 years as the Christian Messiah.

Most Americans are Christians. And most of them celebrate the holiday with Christmas trees, Christmas lights and ornaments, Christmas presents, Christmas music, Christmas nativity scenes, Christmas spirit and Christmas meals.

They say Merry Christmas—not Happy Holidays or Season’s Greetings—to everyone, Christian or not. That’s a traditional gesture of good will—not an insult to non-Christians.

Bottom line: There is no generic brand of Christmas. (10 DECEMBER 2005)
