Children usually embrace the social, political and religious biases of their parents.

With that in mind, prepare for a more radicalized and confused America in the not-to-distant future.

According to researchers at Zogby International, a respected national polling firm, most high-school seniors:

--Regard abortion as morally wrong and would severely limit a woman’s right to choose.

--Would not consider abortion if they became pregnant in high school.

--Support stronger handgun-control legislation.

Yet, most:

--Are more likely to support legalization of gay marriages.

--Want the U.S. Supreme Court to preserve the Roe vs. Wade abortion decision.

--Support adoptions by gay parents.

Zounds, talk about mixed messages.

But wait. A healthy number of teenagers matriculate to college and university campuses where homespun biases are invariably mellowed.

Who knows whether their ventures into academia will make them more liberal or conservative?

No wonder Democrats are more centrist and Republicans have become the big spenders. They’re in their second childhood. (12 FEBRUARY 2006)
