Major American news magazines no longer cover the news.

U.S. News & World Report likes to waste paper on top-100 lists of hospitals, universities and businesses. Ho hum.

Newsweek and Time now devote their pages to glamorizing pop culture and other nonsense. Yuck.

Enter six-year-old The Week, which publishes abridged coverage from “the best of the U.S. and international media.”

Based in New York, but founded in the United Kingdom, the 40-pager joins USA Today in embracing preciseness.

One of its many other user-friendly features is the tying of world stories to pinpointed locations on global maps: Oh, that’s where Onitsha, Nigeria is.

Despite its UK heritage, you won’t find British spellings and phrasings. Just superbly written and edited American English.

Too bad you can’t find it at supermarket check-out stands or magazine sections. Then again, you probably can’t find any news publications there either.
