Everyone knows elderly persons suffer from the “slows.”

Everyone except one motorcycle officer of the Los Angeles Police Dept., who was apparently sworn to protect and serve only motorists.

Mayvis Coyle, age 82, received a $114 traffic citation in February for “obstructing the flow of traffic” at a Foothill Boulevard intersection in Sunland.

It seems Coyle, who has to use a cane and resides in a nearby mobilehome park, failed to cross the five-lane street in the allotted seven-second “walk” time.

Did the cop, parked nearby, even try to shield Coyle from oncoming traffic or help her cross the street? Hell no.

The cop simply completed writing the ticket as the “don’t walk” sign came on and the signal turned red before Coyle finished carrying her groceries across the suburb’s busiest thoroughfare.

Los Angeles transportation officials reportedly are studying the “relatively common” problem affecting senior pedestrians. (7 MAY 2006)
