Chew on this:

Bushies believe journalists committed treason when they revealed Dubya’s warrantless surveillance of all international and domestic telephone calls made in the United States.

Why? Simply because Americans weren’t supposed to know about the illegal monitoring by the National Security Agency.

Ergo, blame the messengers and sources rather than the unaccountable executive branch.

What kind of democracy is this? New York Times and USAToday reporters and editors facing possible prison time for exercising their First Amendment roles to keep tabs on government?

Congress has abdicated its responsibility to check abuses of executive power. Because, like Dubya, most members of the U.S. House and Senate are partisan Republicans.

The political boat won’t be rocked until Democrats recapture one or both federal legislative bodies this year and the White House in 2008. (4 JUNE 2006)
