Silly Season 2006 has ended remarkably well. Now it’s time to anticipate ideal match-ups for the 2008 political circus.

Elephants have the potential Dream Team of Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) for president and Rudolph Giuliani, former mayor of New York City, for vice president.

Donkeys have the potential Dream Team of Sen. Joseph Biden (D-Del.) for prez and Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) for veep.

McClain, war hero and pragmatist, has the gonads for leadership. Giuliani has credentials in homeland security and other vital domestic issues.

Biden, expert on foreign relations, is the leading advocate of partitioning and federalizing Iraq to resolve that quagmire. Obama was the first black president of the prestigious Harvard Law Review and is an expert on state and other domestic issues.

Neither Giuliani nor Obama has the credentials now to hold the top spot. But four or eight years as apprentice to the chief executive would provide them. (12 NOVEMBER 2006)
