Water, water everywhere and not a drop to drink?

You must be the one in five Americans who spends $1.50 for 20 ounces of bottled water rather than a fraction of a cent for the same liquid from a faucet.

Last year Americans spent $15 billion to guzzle 30 billion plastic bottles of the purified H20.

The process required l.5 million barrels of crude oil just to create the containers—plus untold amounts of fuel for 37,800 semis trucking the wet cargo across the United States.

In the meantime, 2 billion pounds of non-biodegradable unrecycled water bottles end up in landfills and incinerators.

And, according to scientific experts, the designer fluid isn’t cleaner, healthier or tastier than the stuff coming from out of taps in most communities.

The real irony? Inexpensive tap-mounted or refrigerated filtration systems provide the same protections against impurities and chemical taste.

Hey, filter and bottle your own and save resources and the environment. (9 SEPTEMBER 2007)
