No doubts now exist about the cruel backwardness of countries embracing fundamental Islamic law.

In Sudan, a primary teacher faces imprisonment and lashes for allowing students to name a class teddy bear Muhammed, the most common given name in the Middle East.

In Saudi Arabia, a woman faces imprisonment and lashes for adultery because she was kidnapped and gang-raped at knifepoint.

Lashes pale by comparison to the usual medieval forms of Islamic punishment: beheading, blinding, dismemberment, branding and stoning.

Earlier, school girls were forced to burn to death in Saudi Arabia because they weren’t wearing sanctioned black robes.

It isn’t coincidence that all of those victims of Islamic justice are female. Females are considered mere property, nonentities and unworthy in much of the Muslim world.

Aside from sheer economics, that is the most compelling reason to find alternatives to importing oil from the Middle East. (2 DECEMBER 2007)
