Pigeons poop on everything: people, vehicles, walkways—you name it.

Government and other agencies have spent millions of dollars in unsuccessful efforts to humanely downsize pigeon populations in urban areas.

Private entrepreneurs now have entered the fray in New York City. Poachers routinely trap the birds with nets and sell them for $5-10 each to out-of-state hunters and—yes—restaurants.

You’d think the Big Apple would endorse the sanitation effort. But no, city and state officials are joining forces to clip the trappers’ wings—spurred on by animal activists.

There are better ways to get rid of pigeons. Simply stuff them in coffee cans and jump on them.

Just kidding, of course.(13 JANUARY 2008)
