Traditional journalism venues, print and broadcast, are losing ground fast to cyberspace sources.

Nearly half (48%) of individuals surveyed in a recent Zogby poll said their primary source of news and information is the Internet.

Yeah, the Internet . That unfiltered, unedited, unsponsored outlet for every imaginable crackpot idea, conspiracy theory and unvarnished lie.

There are no cyber reference librarians vetting the data you receive after Googling a subject or issue of interest.

Websites created and maintained by legitimate news sources still aren’t profitable and thorough.

They’re tokens, deliberately sparse to protect revenues from existing circulation and advertising sources.

Future print and broadcast survivors won’t be in major metropolitan areas. They’ll be in smaller markets where local news is the bread and butter of community life. (13 APRIL 2008)
