Take a good look at your state statutes.

Do they include a law making it illegal to tape-record a conversation without first obtaining permission, except when a person wouldn’t reasonably expect privacy—such as a public meeting or event?

If they do, expect to be arrested for video/audio-taping police officers without their permission when they enforce the law—ala the Rodney King affair.

That’s right. John Law in many areas of America has confiscated video cameras and cited their owners because the devices recorded what was said during police actions.

And the devices don’t have to be camcorders. Cell phones with video/audio capabilities also are targeted by officers concerned about being accused of unnecessary roughness or inappropriate language.
