A few billions here and a few billions there and pretty soon you’re talking about real money.

The 647-page, $825-billion “economic stimulus” package is actually a slop trough for every Democratic Party special-interest proposal of the past 40 years.

But the politically correct wish list is not, repeat not, designed to put many Americans back to work, to create new jobs or provide tax breaks for the middle class.

Not when thousands of shovel-ready infrastructure projects identified by state and local governments are not included in the proposed spending bonanza.

”Jobs, jobs, jobs” was the professed mantra for the “stimulus” package. Instead the cry became “pork, pork, pork” as the House majority party approved and sent the bill to the Senate without any Republican support.

As House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-California) put it: “We won the election. We wrote the bill.”

A pox on her house. (8 FEBRUARY 2009)
