What will the puppy pee on when your neighborhood newspaper bites the dust?

What will you use to swat the flies?

What will be used when you run out of toilet paper?

Heh? The internet on your laptop or desktop? No way.

The Internet won’t tell you a criminal was arrested in your neighborhood. Or that an old friend died. Or a zillion other news items important to you and your neighbors.

Most sources of so-called news on the Internet don’t have professional editors questioning accuracy, amending copy and ensuring that reporters are thorough and objective.

The future of journalism simply requires newspapers to shrink from full or tabloid sizes to letter-size electronic slates fueled by responsible cyberspace sources.

And carry the same carefully prepared news and features with the same portability, familiarity and trust. (22 MARCH 2009)
