Americans upset with the federal government’s bailout and stimulus plans have drawn little attention from elected officials.

But have spawned a whole lot of negative focus from antiterrorist units, biohazard squads and postal officials.

Seems tea bags mailed in protest to local, state and national politicians have triggered automatic responses established after the 2001 anthrax attacks.

Encouraged by a movement called Taxed Enough Already (TEA), protest tea parties are scheduled nationwide on Tax Day, April 15.

But TEA brewers deny support for the tea mailings, even though many of the envelopes contain the words “Tea Party.”

Inspiration for the protest, of course, is the 1773 Boston Tea Party, when American colonial patriots protested English “taxation without representation” by dumping British tea into the Massachusetts harbor.

Lost in the leaves is the fact that the bailout and stimulus plans were approved by America’s elected representatives—not imposed by England’s Queen Elizabeth. ( 12 APRIL 2009)
