House minority leader John Boehner (pronounced boner, not bayner) now looks more like Herman Munster than Count Dracula.

The Ohio Republican famously yelled "hell no you can't" before House Democrats chanted "yes we can" and voted to reform America's healthcare last week.

Rep. Boner is leading the GOP's new mid-term effort to "repeal and replace" the bill's essential provisions including the mandatory buying of coverage--a mainstay of Republican healthcare proposals.

His party of "hell no" now must convince voters to elect candidates who favor denial of coverage to anyone with pre-existing health conditions, dropping customers when they get sick and returning lifetime caps on insurance payments to the chronically ill.

Good luck with that, Rep. Boner. Those realities actually existed, unlike your fear-mongering about death panels, socialism and government takeover.

Healthcare reform now becomes the new third rail of politics, joining Social Security and Medicare as politically untouchable.

Republicans are perceived now as unified against progress and, defying history, may actually lose seats in November's general election. (28 MARCH 2010)
