Enough already. Federal agents should use force, if necessary, to take Elian Gonzalez into custody and return him to Cuba.

And while they're at it, the federal authorities should revoke the citizenships of any naturalized Cuban-Americans unlawfully resisting deportation of the motherless six-year-old boy.

Thousands of Cuban refugees, encouraged by pandering politicians in Miami and nationally, embrace anarchy by supporting defiance of America's immigration and justice systems.

Those refugees allegedly fled Cuba to escape that country's arbitrary political control of their lives. Now, the refugees employ the same arbitrary behaviors to make their own political points.

Elian has no close relatives in the United States. Elian's closest relatives--his father and both sets of grandparents--choose to remain in Cuba. Elian belongs with them, since no evidence exists of their unfitness to rear the child.

Better yet: Normalize diplomatic relations with Cuba and watch natural democratization quickly nullify Fidel Castro. That would allow Miami's rabble-rousers to return to their own country. Good riddance.

Deflate the Elian Gonzalez political football.(2 APRIL 2000).
