Old farts accept the inevitable surrender of newspapers, magazines and books to electronic formats.

Portable slates such as Apple's iPad spell the end to giant presses gobbling tons of ink and processed trees.

Markets, book stores and libraries of the future will offer reading materials in vending machines or shelves of discs and flash drives.

But old farts will still be able to embrace the guilty pleasure of turning paper pages turning yellow with age.

Stores offering used paperback and bound books will host shelves of out-of-print volumes of westerns, science fiction, mysteries and war--the traditional escape mechanisms of yesteryear.

You can't dog-ear an electronic page. And that's a fact. (12 DECEMBER 2010)
