Don't blame just Jared Lee Loughner for the Tucson, Ariz. massacre that left six dead and more than a dozen other persons seriously wounded.
Also blame the National Rifle Assn. for successfully fighting the federal ban on assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition clips.
Loughner used a now-legal 33-round clip in his 9mm semiautomatic pistol to mow down his victim in seconds. He was subdued while reloading another extended clip.
And blame the right-wing politicians and pundits for applauding violence to resolve political differences--even inviting gun-totting nuts to attend public rallies.
Gun enthusiasts say the assault weapons and mega clips aren't needed for self-defense, hunting or target practice. They are needed to defend citizens against an over-reaching government.
