Newlywed Prince William, the newly dubbed Duke of Cambridge, has deftly reminded the world of England's most-famous contributions:

Classic sports cars.

His Dukeness's choice of a post-wedding carriage for Katherine, the Duchess of Cambridge, was an Aston Martin convertible.

England always has been the most prolific manufacturer of racy two-seaters for ordinary blokes other than Willie and Secret Agent 007, James Bond.

Consider the various iconic versions of England's MG, Austin-Healey, Triumph, Morgan, Jaguar and Lotus.

Germany's Porsche, Mercedes and BMW, Italy's Ferrari, Lamborgini and Alfa Romeo and Japan's Datsun Zs, Mazda Miata and Toyota Supra pale in number and price comparisons.

America hasn't produced real sports cars beyond Corvette and the early Thunderbirds.

England sucks, however, in venues other than soccer, fish and chips, pipe tobacco, malt vinegar and tailoring. (1 MAY 2011)
