Ailing James Verone, age 59, recently did just that in North Carolina--guaranteeing enough time in the slammer to be eligible later for Social Security and Medicare.
And while in prison for the unarmed heist, Verone will have his health problems addressed. And maybe his dental issues as well.
All on the public dime.
Verone had lost his job as a Coca Cola delivery guy and couldn't find other work.
By contrast, his former employer's chief executive officer last year pulled down more than $30 million in salary and benefits.
Here's another irony: Convicts aren't given access to carbonated beverages because of health concerns.
