Corporations frequently write the rules that govern them--and us.

That's why many major companies financially support the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), the corporate front group that writes legislation delivered to Republican state office-holders for passage across the country.

That's why many states have enacted ALEC-inspired voter-suppression laws under the guise of combatting nonexistent fraud at the polls.

That's why many states have passed ALEC-inspired laws decimating collective bargaining and denying climate change and pollution as reasons for strong environmental protections.

ALEC also wants to privatize schools, prisons, police, fire protection, transportation, social and welfare services and increase corporate influence in elections.

Most oil companies and major companies such as Wal-mart, State Farm, Coca-Cola, Visa, Bayer, AT&T, Johnson & Johnson, Kraft Foods, Hewlett-Packard, Walgrens and Amazon.com all sponsor ALEC's right-wing activities.

Remember that the next time you go shopping. (8 APRIL 2012)
