America in the 1950s wasn't just an introduction to Mayberry RFD and Leave It to Beaver.
That Cold War decade also spawned Sen Joe McCarthy (R-Wisc.), the House Unamerican Activities Committee and the John Birch Society--three wacko entities claiming there were Communists in every American closet.
Now we have another Republican nutjob claiming 78 to 81 fellow members (Democrats, naturally) of the U.S. House of Representatives are card-carrying Communists.
U.S. Rep. Allen West (R-Fla.) accuses the Congressional Progressive Caucus of trying to create a godless, Socialist America through healthcare mandates, cap-and-trade and immigration reform once touted by the GOP.
West follows in the footsteps of former Republican presidential hopefuls who see America becoming a clone of the godless Soviet Union.
West panders to the paranoids while Democrats want to end corporate welfare, rebuild infrastructure, get out of Afghanistan and eliminate tax cuts for America's top two percent.
