Broadcast and print mediums utterly dropped the ball in news coverage of the Boston Marathon massacre.

While acknowledging that two bombs exploded almost simultaneously a few hundred feet apart, news accounts of the second explosion have been extremely sparse.

Three persons were killed and 170-plus others were injured, but no news account reveals if there were casualties in the second explosion.

No runners were injured in the first blast. Were any injured in the second? Who knows?

Apparently news directors and editors ignored casaualties and damage explanations because there are no gee-whiz close-up graphics to compete with the first blast.

The medium (visuals) is the message in both broadcast and print coverage. (21 APRIL 2013)
