Don't know about your reactions, but certain television ads cause this viewer to recoil with horror.

The ones promoting urinary catheters used to drain malfunctioning bladders, for example.

The ones requiring insertion of a flexible plastic tube up the hoo-hoo in the privacy of one's own home.

Ouch.

Other objectionable ads show patients frolicking with joy in various scenarios while possible side effects of the promoted medication--including death or four-hour woodies--are listed in a monotone voice.

Why are these medications promoted? Patients can't simply walk into the nearest pharmacy and get them without prescriptions from medical doctors.

And physicians and pharmacists already are required by law to inform patients about possible side effects.

Medication manufacturers obviously hope the patients will ignore the warnings and lobby their physicians for the chance to run marathons or bat bedroom eyes at significant others. (22 DECEMBER 2013)
