Bald isn't beautiful?

Two recent studies--one by the Institute for Social Studies in Zurich, Switzerland--found rampant job descrimination against candidates with thinning or no hair.

The key factor appears to be the equating of baldness with aging--and we all know how employers feel about older or older-appearing workers.

Older workers mean higher premiums for health-insurance coverage. Since the bottom line dictates who gets hired and promoted, bean counters routinely ignore fair-employment practices.

Nevermind the success stories: actor Sean Connery dubbed the sexiest man alive, Cajun James Carville being the hottest political strategist today and actor Patrick Stewart commanding Star Trek's Starship Enterprise for several seasons.

And don't forget that baldness is universally regarded as a sure sign of sexual virility. Baldies may not get the jobs, but they sure as hell get the girls.(13 AUGUST 2000)
