Republicans keep shooting themselves in the foot.
This time, GOP senators derailed passage of a $21-billion bill that improved benefits for 22-million armed-forces veterans and their families.
The bill would have expanded medical centers, improved educational opportunities and extended treatment programs for vets with brain injuries.
Veterans affairs long have enjoyed "third rail" (untouchable) status with Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.
Democrats are expected to exploit the issue, adding veterans to the list of "47%" groups alienated by the GOP---including women, racial minorities, the elderly, students, homosexuals and low-income citizens.
But wait. There's still hope for the GOP:
Republicans haven't yet alienated little people, mental patients, beekeepers, roofers, cross-dressers and the homeless.
It'll happen. Just give them time (2 MARCH 2014)
