Gotten any telephone calls lately from actor Robert Redford, Gen. Norman Swartzkoff (U.S. Army, ret.) or other celebrities?

Those spokespersons for liberal and conservative causes and political candidates have recorded political messages assailing your eardrums as soon as you pick up your phone and say "hello."

Probably 99 per cent of us immediately hang up after realizing the communication isn't interactive. And most of us undoubtedly are angry as hell about political poobahs wasting our time.

But what about the small percentage of us who actually listen to the messages? Or the even smaller percentage who believe Robert or Norman actually selected them for personal attention?

Obviously political parties and movements realize the intrusive technique works or money wouldn't be spent on expensive equipment and phone lines.

Get a life, America. Hang up.(5 NOVEMBER 2000 )
