On May 12th, 2001, one of our pledges (Shelly) lost her brand new white car in a fire on the Egil's Tourney site. (Buford Park) The preliminary reports indicate that the fire was caused by the sawdust used to make the roads, which clogged her engine and ignited. I hope that this is a sign to the powers that be that (in my eyewitness opinion) the sawdust roads ARE NOT SAFE and something else needs to be used. Thankfully, no one was injured, and the fire was contained to about 300 feet of sawdust road and the car until it could be put out. But other cars were checked, and they too had engines full of sawdust, so the Fire Department was kind enough to rinse them out with the firehose. I, personally, was terrified to even start my car after I saw how much sawdust was in it initially.
Ok, editorial over, and seriousness aside, someone joked that the virgin sacrifice to the tourney gods has been made, so we should have nice weather for the event. :) The spot has been designated "Dragon's Bane", and will be noted with a marker made by House of Fools own Katherine Wells, which shall read: "DRAGONS BANE Here died a Foolish dragon, whose belly of fire burnt him to a crisp". Pictures of the fire are linked below. (Thank you Duck!)
