Hawaii 1997

Hanauma Bay, Oahu
Hanauma Bay, Oahu. A beautiful marine sanctuary although you can't really see much from this picture. (From left to right) Winnie, Dawn and me.

Sulphur vents in Volcano National Park, Hawaii
Big Island, Hawaii. Note the sulphur vents creating a dream like effect behind us. As suggested by the name, it's really quite smelly which is why signs are put up to warn pregnant women, old people, sick people, etc from going there. Anyway the whole of the Hawaiian chain is made up of volcanoes, extinct on the other islands but very active on Big Island. Big Island is quite rural but i like it quite a lot as the stuff we saw was really amazing. We saw calderas, fumaroles, rift valleys, etc here. Heard there's also a volcanic eruption when we're there but we didn't get to see it.

A slightly clearer picture of Big Island.

Sandy Beach , Oahu
Sandy Beach, Oahu. Here in winter, the waves are quite spectacular but in other parts of the island, waves reach much higher to 30m and more.

Outside Warner Brother's Store
Shopping in Waikiki on the last night we were there. We've just returned from Ala Moana shopping centre. Thereafter I did some last minute shopping for souvenirs for friends as some shops open past midnight.

Honolulu International Airport
This is a picture of the welcome reception we received upon arrival at the airport. As this picture was lifted off the school magazine, it's in black and white. Nonetheless you can see the flower leis that's hanging around our neck.
