Career Info

A notable piece of racing history follows driver Loy Allen around. By capturing the pole at the 1994 Daytona 500 he became the first rookie to ever sit on the pole for the prestigious race.

And he followed it up by posting the best finish (22nd) for any rookie driver in the race. That year he went on to capture two more poles -- at Atlanta adn Michigan -- and ended the season 41st in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series point standings.

Following a neck injury at North Carolina Speedway in 1996, he has struggled to maintain his driving career.

He drove a limited number of events in the No. 78 Mark III Motorsports Chevrolet in the NASCAR Busch Series Grand National Division in 1998 and had continued to make spot appearances for Mark III team owner Dan Browder. In 1999 he has driven the No. 58 car in 2 NASCAR Winston Cup Series races for SBIII Mororsports so far.

His background includes World Karking Association, NDRA, Outlaws Dirt competition and ARCA. In 1982 he was the WKA North Carolina champion and 1983 NDRA Super Late Model Rookie of the Year.

Competetive athletics always has been a part of his life; he was a high school wrestling champion. Allen enjoys action movies, dance music, snow and water skiing, and golf.

2000 - Does alot of restrictor plate track testing for the Morgan-McClure Motorsports team with there driver, Bobby Hamilton.

1999 - Loy drives the SBIII Motorsports Ford in 2 NASCAR Winston Cup events. Also tries to Qualify for 2 Busch Grand National events in the MARK III Motorsports Chevy.

1998 - Attmepts to qualify a Richard Jackson car (#14) in the Daytona 500. Also attmepts the Brickyard 400 in a Bud Moore prepared car. Drives in 2 Busch Grand National races for MARK III Motorsports, where he collects a 7th place finish at Talladega.

1997 - Starts the season in the #19 Child Support Recovery International Ford from Tri Star Motorsports, where he starts 2 races. Drives the #48 Sammy Kershaw Motorsports Ford in the First race at the California Speedway.

1996 - Loy is going to run a full season behind the wheel of a Tri Star Motorsports Ford with sponsorship from Healthsource Healthplans. But is injured after the 2nd race. Team cuts back to a limited schedule.

1995 - Gets a ride in a Junior Johnson Ford with sponsorship from Hooter's Resturants, but after 6 races he moves back to the Tri Star Motorsports team for a limited schedule with Healthsource. In December Tri Star announced that they will run the full 1996 season with the backing from Healthsource.

1994 - Loy Allen enters the NASCAR Winston Cup Series as MAXX Race Cards Rookie of the Year candidate. Starts on 3 Busch poles and runs a limited ARCA race schedule with Hooters as the sponsor on both of the cars from Tri Star Motorsports.

1993 - Competes in five Winston Cup events with primary sponsor Naturally Fresh Foods. Obtains Hooters Resturants as Winston Cup sponsor in October. First race with Tri Star Motorsports at Pheonix. Wins one pole and two outside poles in ARCA Hooters Cup Series.

1992 - Enters the ARCA Super Car Series. Wins the pole at Daytona ARCA 200, first career superspeedway race. Wins Motorcraft 500k at Atlanta. Three poles and two outside poles in eight starts.

1983 - Begins six year NDRA Super Late Model and Outlaw Wedge car career. 53 NDRA career wins.

1982 - Wins WKA North Carolina Points Championship at age 15,

1980 - Begins racing in WKA sanctioned karts.
