The Big One That Did not Getaway -Jan 1999

The Big one that got away. You always hear those old fishing stories say.
I got him, had him
then he broke loose
a fate filled heart ache to pay.

The big one always seems to get away. When 14 years old I got very bold,
cruising in my boat on the Puget Sound Bay.
Looking to catch the BIG FISH, fulfilling my wish being the best fisherman of my day.

Through-out the spring and summer
hardly a bite did I get
no fish filled the empty net.
yes the big one seemed to get away. my luck changed,
The big one bit

My pole bent in two.
Please don't let this big one get way.
I've had a chance at so few.
A fight did persist,
a mighty big fish
had to be the largest to exist.

Totally exhausted ready to give up the quest.
The fish pulled so hard
it nearly broke my wrist

A miracle new strength new zest appear.
I reeled with new vigor and zeal. I landed the big one
my dream had become real.
It is the big one that did not get away.
I tell my story to the youth of today
About my Big Fish
that did not get away.
I hear the youth talking later
I over heard them say
A Big Fish like that had to have gotten away!!
